tRANSFORM LEARNING

Here’s who we are

Winning Scotland is a charity that acts as a catalyst for change. Our focus is on partnerships and innovation. We find solutions that empower Scotland’s young people to be confident and resilient.

In education, we achieve this by customising proven approaches for a Scottish context and collaborating with government, Education Scotland and local authorities to create the biggest impact.

Our Mindset in Education courses have been developed based on the Curriculum for Excellence and the Scottish Government's policy of raising attainment and closing the poverty related attainment gap.

here's what we know

Our approaches are based on robust evidence, developed to be effective in settings where children spend their time – like school, communities and sport.

The development of growth mindset as a concept is based on the work of Stanford University’s Professor Carol Dweck. There is a significant body of evidence about the positive impact of ‘growth mindset’ in education. Mindset helps young people to have a love of learning, thrive on challenges and build resilience when things go wrong.

Our ambition is to embed growth mindset into the Scottish education system and indeed the entire learning environment of Scotland’s young people.

Here’s what we’ve achieved

We have a track record of delivering large-scale and long-lasting impact, offering a high social return on investment - in the three key areas of Maths, Learning and Teaching.

MATHS
By supporting teachers to make maths a more collaborative and discursive subject, pupils are more confident and less anxious about the subject.

LEARNING
Across all areas of education, our work with teachers is rubbing off on thousands of pupils, who are becoming resilient, engaged and diligent in their learning.

TEACHING
We provide professional learning opportunities for teachers and school leadership, empowering them to create positive culture change in their school.

Since initial delivery in 2017-18, our mindset in education courses have registered a total of 1299 teachers across Scotland.
