Growth mindset makes maths fun!
Maths anxiety in pupils coming into High School was a concern for Andrew Bowles as Principal Teacher of Mathematics and Science at Dalbeattie High School in Dumfries and Galloway.
Winning Scotland's 2022 maths attitude survey showed 45% of Scotland's young people feel nervous or anxious about maths.
To tackle this, Andrew and two of his colleagues completed Winning Scotland’s Mindset in Education training.
They used growth mindset techniques to disguise the classroom tasks - making maths more fun and less abstract, so pupils didn’t feel like they were doing maths. By the second week using growth mindset techniques they were seeing results.
