Growth mindset to boost pupil resilience

Douglas Academy has introduced growth mindset as part of an ethos change designed to confront a lack of resilience among pupils.

As part of her role as acting PT of health and wellbeing, Sharon Cawston took part in Winning Scotland’s Mindset Champions professional learning programme and has been educating staff, establishing a working group, and writing materials for pupils.

Sharon delivered an in-service day workshop on growth mindset and the school’s health and wellbeing committee altered its focus to specifically look at growth mindset.

Guidance teachers also started using growth mindset for PSE lessons.
