Growth mindset and sleep to prepare for the senior phase
Depute Head Teacher of Maxwelltown High School, Julie Morrison, trialled a growth mindset programme with third years to build their confidence and resilience.
The school is in an area with economic and social challenges, which can leave some pupils feeling as though they lack opportunities in life.
The aim of Julie's project was to equip pupils with tools and strategies as they moved into the senior phase, focusing particularly on positive thinking, goal-setting and understanding the importance of sleep.
When Julie moved to Sanquhar Academy for part of the year, she also had the chance to run the programme with third year pupils there.
In both schools, the response to the growth mindset concepts was overwhelmingly positive. Pupils feel better prepared to tackle the opportunities and challenges of the next stage in their learning, and beyond.
