Growth mindset is building the confidence of Dundee pupils
Kerri Tough and her colleagues at Fintry Primary School in Dundee realised the need to develop a true growth mindset culture, going beyond posters on the wall.
By focusing on perseverance in literacy, Kerri witnessed an extraordinary confidence change in one Primary 6 pupil.
“There is one child in the class who didn’t speak at all, but when we started doing growth mindset activities, he managed to read out loud one sentence in front of his peers, which is something he’s been trying to develop for years. The mindset work has really helped him.”
The turnaround happened after the school delivered growth mindset lessons to Primary 6 pupils.
Following this success, the P6’s worked in turn with their Primary 2 peers to deliver mindset messages. The older children read mindset themed books to the younger pupils, and then work with them to complete activity sheets that builds on their learning.
Kerri shares the full story in this 4-minute video.
