Pupils reconnect with school after learning about growth mindset
Staff at St Bernadette’s PS in North Lanarkshire and Heriot PS in Renfrewshire took part in Mindset Teams to help pupils re-engage with their education and raise their aspirations.
Pupils at St Bernadette’s had developed the perception that they ‘weren’t clever’ and couldn’t see the point in education. Coupled with this, the school wanted pupils to develop a greater appreciation for the value of maths and numbers in everyday life.
As a result of instilling a growth mindset culture, they are seeing much greater enthusiasm for learning, and improved behaviour among pupils too.
They are more willing to try new things without being scared of getting it wrong.
Indeed, one class actually celebrates their ‘marvellous mistakes’ and can talk about what went wrong and how they are going to fix their mistake and do better next time - as explained in this 5-minute video.
