Whole school approach to creating a growth mindset culture
19 staff from St Anthony’s Primary School in Renfrewshire joined our Mindset Teams programme to create a growth mindset culture across their learning community.
Led by Head Teacher Jacqui McBurnie, the school engaged with growth mindset to help every pupil and every teacher in the school be the best learners they could be.
This meant creating behaviour change, with a focus on understanding that it’s OK to make mistakes. This would help pupils become more willing to take on difficult challenges rather than just choosing easy tasks where they can always get the right answer.
Pupils were supported to persevere when they found something difficult, to be resilient when they made mistakes, and to focus more on the process rather than getting the right answer.
Now, as shown in this 7-minute video, when children make a mistake, they celebrate it and keep trying, because they know they are learning and "exercising their brains".
