Mindset maths helps pupils develop self-belief across all subjects
Ann Bowman, Head Teacher at Clarkston Primary School in North Lanarkshire, used mindset maths to introduce a growth mindset culture that is permeating across the whole school.
Ann and two classroom teachers at Clarkston joined the Mindset Teams programme to help their pupils become more resilient in maths.
The pupils had a fixed mindset about maths – lacking belief that they can achieve, with some giving up before they even started a new task.
Ann and her colleagues fostered a growth mindset culture through assemblies, nurturing pupils’ skills and abilities and opening the mindset of pupils to appreciate that making mistakes is the best form of learning.
This led to an amazing transformation and fed into the whole school ethos, permeating across subjects. Pupils now have skills to navigate challenges and are achieving more than they have in the past.
In this 6-minute video case-study, Ann explains the journey she and her school went on.
