Teachers revisit their school days for a lesson in growth mindset
Head of PE at St John’s RC High School in Dundee, Ged Curran, took part in Mindset Teams to delve deeper into the potential impact of growth mindset.
Ged’s plan was move the school from informal pockets of growth mindset work to a more coordinated practice.
Following conversations with education officers in Dundee City Council, Ged teamed up with colleague Mike Ryan, a Support for Learning teacher with expertise in growth mindset, to test growth mindset strategies in the school.
They set up a Growth Mindset Policy Group to explore teachers’ attitudes to growth mindset and create a network for staff to learn about and promote growth mindset in the school.
The aim was to engage as many staff as possible to challenge embedded beliefs, and ultimately translate the language of growth mindset into something practical and beneficial for pupils.
